Now the only pub in Cheriton Bishop and a good one at that.

Charming inside and a decent garden out the back this is a good pub serving great ale (Dartmoor Legend!) in a fairly quiet part of Devon right on the edge of Dartmoor national park.

Also really easy to get to just off the A30 trunk road to Cornwall.

Stayed at the Woodleigh coach house (very highly recommend) on a Friday on way to Cornwall. As there is no bar the kind landlady recommended the Old Thatch Inn and even provided high viz jackets for dark walk back. We found this to be a lovely pub with a good selection of ales and friendly staff. We did not eat but the food that glided past us looked very good. Assuming we can get back in the woodleigh next year, a visit to this pub will again be in order.

Has been under new ownership for some time now, and is thriving; great beer well kept, the food is a really high standard (consistently tasty) and all reasonably priced. To top it all, the staff are friendly and on the ball. all in all a real bonus for the area, well worth a visit.

A pleasant pub with reasonable food but a seiously unpleasant landlord. We visited en route to Cornwall, following a sign from the main road. We ordered sandwiches for three people. Having taken our order the landlord asked us to "bear with him" because the kitchen was busy but he did not indicate exactly how long we would have to wait. An hour and ten minutes later the food finally arrived. This was after chasing at the 45 minute stage (when we were told by a waitress that the food would be out in 2 minutes) and at the hour stage, when we were bluntly told that we had to wait in line with everyone ordering main meals.

The delay we could have accepted had the staff had the courtesy to tell us what was happening. But when we complained for the second time, after an hour, the landlord had the nerve to tell us that we had only been waiting for 30 minutes. A blatant lie.

He was agressive and unpleasant. When leaving my wife went into the toliets where a waitress was in floods of tears, having been shouted at by the landlord.

We visit Cornwall regularly but would never consider visiting this pub again. The landlord is just unpleasant. And it was not just us, several tables were commenting on his bad attitude. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Visiting Cheriton Bishop area - and thhis pub was recommended for a light lunch. Impressed with the building - and then I ordered lunch, a steak sandwich - which I thought was a little too expensive at 8.50. And then it arrived - very small and the plate filled with chips and salad. The chips were just filled with grease. And the steak sandwich had to be dismantled to remove fat and gristle.

It was returned - and the self-important barman brought the plate back to me - and loudly demanded to know what was wrong with it. I don't like getting bad food. But I rarely complain - in this case only because the meal was so expensive for so little. But I really hate being embarrassed in public. I had not made a scene - just quietly returned my meal. He had no right to cause a scene - and then charge 4.25 fro what I did eat! Never again. It looks good - but the food was disappointing. Anyone can have a bad day - and if the situation had been handled well, I may well have decided to give it another chance. But not in this case!
