The Semley Arms was our favourite pub in a Sunday crawl of 10 rural Wiltshire pubs. Overlooking a large expanse of greenery that is the local village green, this village pub clearly had a loyal clientele crowding around the bar. Ales were Ringwood Best Bitter, Twisted Ale Rider & Cotleigh Long-Eared Owl. It also had Lilley's Red Rabbit cider, which I rarely see. Recommended. blue_scrumpy - 1 Feb 2018 20:46 |
Good choice of beers. Woodburner. Lunch seemed O/K. But, I simply do not want to eat my lunch with the pub dog running around. So, good for dog lovers but not for me. BeerEnthusiast - 16 Jan 2014 18:52 |
Yes, this is a very quaint building with super potential and it did have a log fire. Bu, I thought the beer was poor, and so very poor value. One cask ale was ridiculously cold, the other was the bottom of the barrel. I thought the food was very poor, particular given the high prices. No wonder the restaurant area was very sparsely populated. Service was terrible and food cold. Also, I do not like eating with dogs running round. I think this pub needs to get some basics right. Until then I suggest that you give it a miss. BeerEnthusiast - 23 Oct 2010 11:54 |
HenPen is still just about right.....not a brilliant reception to new-comers. ales still not top notch and service a bit rickety. a quaint place tho which could be excellent, needs further effort at the moment. only 5 for the time being..... alehouses - 6 Mar 2008 13:38 |
The landlords' comments ("try us, you'll like us") should be taken for what it's worth. Still anything can be an improvement on the previous bigoted landlord. Potential here, but still not a welcoming pub. HenPen - 25 Jul 2007 18:33 |
