Just to say that this place has had an internal alteration so that the bar is now on the right and enlarged. There are now 6 handpumps (previously 4), though I was told that only 5 are usually ever in use at once. As previous posters have alluded to, the place is now run by the Hartshorn brewery (I believe Wentwell no longer brew and just run a micropub in Burton-on-Trent). Yesterday there were 4 Hartshorn beers on tap plus a guest (Brunswick Black Sabbath). Since I didn’t fancy a 6% beer for my first of the day, I went for the Hartshorn Reaper (4.9%), which was eminently drinkable. And there are now two loos – though the ladies requires a key ! For my recent Sunday afternoon session the ale selection was Hartshorn's Ignite, Hartshorn's Fusion, Leatherbritches Ashbourne IPA & Nottingham Rock Bitter supplemented by "three ciders from the cellar" and some "craft keg" - no denying where my prejudices lie. I stuck to Ignite for the session beer of the day, which like this micro pub itself simply excellent. With the exception of a congested, slightly too public spot for the one choice of indoor loo I couldn't think of a reason why I shouldn't award anything less than a 9/10 based solely on one delightful afternoon. Bustling, friendly, comfortably simple with an agreeable mixture of two and four legged punters, plus a stroll back into the centre takes you across a pleasant residential green space as well as an opportunity to pop into the Furnace.. Derby does it again. ILooklikeme - 1 Mar 2016 10:52 |
Brilliant place. Worth getting the bus or a taxi as it's a longer walk out of town than you think. Beers top notch. Closes far too early but presumably that's out of their control. jarofporter - 18 Sep 2015 14:08 |
Small micropub unsurprisingly in the Little Chester area of the city. It's not too far a walk from the centre. Ales were all from Wentwell - D5, Farm Hand's Bitter, Derby Pale Ale & Jeremiah Mild. Ciders were Sheppys Farmhouse Sweet & Farmer Fear Farm Cider. It's very cosy in here and was standing room only by the time we left. There is a toilet at the rear and another outdoor one. Nice pub. blue_scrumpy - 14 Jun 2015 10:26 |
A very good spot indeed, nice atmosphere, quiet (when I was there) small and friendly. I cannot remember what beer I had but it was Wentwell and very nice. ben23699 - 14 Apr 2015 20:55 |
