b MYSTERY surrounds the future of a Wollaston pub that was famously known as the place punters could stick their pints on the walls. Somerset House on Enville Street, which was owned by Marston’s Brewery, called last orders last month. A Marston’s spokesman said: “We have accepted an offer on the pub and the purchasers intend to apply for planning permission for a change of use.” But the brewery would not shed any light on the new owners, or what the new use would be. In its heyday, the pub attracted attention from local and national media due to the ability to stick glasses to the walls. There were suggestions that the pub was haunted but that was quashed by scientists who suggested it could be down to a mixture of wallpaper glue, old cigarette smoke and grime.
