This is a food-oriented pub to the south of Chelmsford in a rural setting. We initially walked into the restaurant area, where the bar was looking pretty sparse. We exited and walked round the pub to the busier bar area. Unfortunately our plans to eat here seemed to flounder initially as children were not allowed in after 6pm. But staff eventually let us bring our charge in with us. The regular ales are Greene King IPA & Crouch Vale Brewer's Gold. The guest beer was Wibbler's Dengie IPA. We enjoyed a nice pub meal in here. It's clearly a popular place. blue_scrumpy - 30 Sep 2018 11:24 |

Now firstly, this pub is NOT in Chelmsford! It's about 10 miles down the old A130 now the A1245. Pub specialises in quality food and has a separate restaurant but you can easily eat in the large long bar area. The beer choice is three real ales - usually Brewers Gold, Greene King IPA and a low gravity guest. Never a bad pint in here or a bad meal either. Two comments - the layout is a little unusual. Because of the way the tables and chairs are positioned it can be difficult to find a seat when a couple occupy many of the tables for 6/8. Also, the pub needs a stronger beer - 4.5 - 5.00 as the existing ones are all pretty much of a muchness. That said, we've visited many times in the last 8 years or so and count ourselves as regulars. We never stay long due to the beer choice which is a shame. ButchEgg - 27 Jun 2012 14:16 |
