Great little pub. I go there at least once a week for work drinks. Great staff and a really relaxed atmosphere. TaxiSam - 23 Feb 2013 21:48 |
To the previous reviewer - either strap on a pair or go to an all bar one. It's a proper, independently-owned pub on the edge of the financial district, so has a good mix of suits/locals and the odd student group. One of the least scary pubs I've ever been in. It does look a bit ropey from the outside but if that bothers you, go inside. Good atmosphere, friendly bar staff/landlord and a pool table/dartboard area downstairs which can be hired out for private parties. Good, if occasionally weird music too (heard "Informer" by Snow from circa 1992 playing there the other day). If the landlord's dishing out shots of home-made chilli vodka then avoid. Unless you particularly want to wake up with stomach cramps at 3am the next morning. Decent food too (if a touch on the pricey side). Best pub in the area. Only downside, started to grow in popularity so more difficult to get a seat at peak times. Arthurguinness - 20 Dec 2011 17:39 |
I'm afraid I cannot echo the glowing review posted immediately below mine. From the outside The Bell is a sorry sight indeed, a gloomy and forbidding corner building tucked away in the sort of neglected East London back street that makes you think twice before getting your phone out of your pocket. Inside you find a large open-plan room kitted out with traditional London pub decor, so while it starts to feel slightly less menacing it is certainly not a place where I could be encouraged to linger - especially not when Youngs and Bombardier are the only ales available. rob1981 - 1 Sep 2011 20:47 |
A nice quirky boozer much more homely than others in the area good well kept beer and two real ales well looked after very friendly and competenet staff - down a side street it is a little away from the hussle and bustle of liverpool street and was a welcome respite MIKESTOKES - 22 Jun 2011 16:38 |
