user reviews of the Victoria Inn, Peckham Rye

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This would probably have been considered good a few years ago but nowadays, there's nothing to distinguish it and in fact, it was very similar to a host of pubs we saw on a stroll around Dulwich and Peckham - faux gastro (the food looked decent but no more than that), unexciting ale choices and a general blandness. The Cure's 'A Forest' did blare out at one point which is a good thing.

This hurt me it was so bad. A horrid mish mash of old school pub with 1950s diner. Who is responsible for such a glaring clash of fashion? Or perhaps I am not seeing the irony (as the many punters no doubt were).
Although the poor quality of the ale is unforgivable.

Another pub on Choumert Road, just a minutes walk from The Montpelier.

This is much more of a food pub that sells a very good selection of lagers and beers.

5 real ales on when I came in, had an excellent pint of their own brew which was called Bonobo and a christmas ale from Sharp's in Cornwall.

Very busy, with the majority of people eating.

I really liked this place, it was very nicely decorated, had the old fashion tiles on the floor round the bar and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

From my point of view the only downside was the kids room at the back, but to be honest I'm just being picky as I don't think kids should be allowed in pubs...but kids = parents = money and being busy when The Montpelier isn't.

If you live in the area and want good beer, what looked like good food, a busy pub and a nice atmos then this is the place.

This is the old Wishing Well pub - refurnished, renamed.
Address shown is incorrect, it should be:

79, Choumert Rd, London, SE15 4AR
