Re-opened as The Well Inn

This place has been reincarnated yet again as the Well Inn. Too early to really comment due to the Covid-19 effects.

As noted, lots of handpumps but only two real ales available when we called. Mid week so maybe more beers are on offer at the weekend? Tried the Palmers Dorset Gold which was up to standard. The draught perry from Broadoak weighed in at 7.5%, good stuff and very drinkable. Enjoyed the our meals also. Nice batter on the fish and the mash with the sausages was tasty. Interesting feature of the bar is the glass covered well.

I'd been intending to go to this place for a while, as it's not on my usual route, so I've neglected it recently.
The licensee (Jim) used to be at the City Arms in Wells, where he made it a good watering hole, so I fully expected to see loads of handpumps with many different ales on.
Surprised to find eight hadpumps with ONE ale on, which I tried, and it was fine.
The main surprise though, was four different real ciders, and four keg fizzy ciders, including Blackthorn, Rattler and a couple of Gaymers.
Food served all day, so we had fish and chips; nice fish, nice batter, peas okay, but chips a bit dry.
I also had a look through the single malt selection, which, although not as extensive as the City Arms, was adequate, and I ended up having a large Glengoyne which I had originally supplied some years ago!
Handy for the Bath & West showground, with accommodation at realistic prices, and from what I've seen, a breakfast enough for a pair of navvies.
Give it a go, particularly if you're into cider(s).
