| The Abington has recently had a fairly costly makeover. In reality it is not really that changed. Different yes, but basically the same. There are fewer TV screens everywhere now. One change is that it is now a Greene King pub which means that the beer range is much more restricted. | I like this pub and go in a few times a month. Nice atmosphere and architecture. Patio good if weather is OK. They usually sell 4 real ales (Adnams Bitter almost always on). It must be said, however, that the quality of these is falling off. It is not now rare to have a beer that is "iffy" or "tired". So much for "cask marque". boblarkin - 19 Jul 2016 13:33 |

| Large, characterful Victorian pub very conveniently sited close to the cricket ground. The food is not exactly haute cuisine but is nevertheless excellent value. My bacon and black pudding stack followed by baked potato, cheese, beans and salad came in at just over 37. My companions' ham egg and chips and 3x speciality susages & mash were also favourably received. There were 4 real ales on offer, and my Doom Bar wasn't too badly kept. I have previously spent the best part of an afternoon in this pub while the rain delayed the cricket, and it was an enjoyable experience. On the downside? | Perfect for a pint or two at lunch f you're attending a match and God's little patch ( the County Ground to the uninitiated ). Other than that, nothing to write home about. Beer range was uninspiring ( Landlord, Doom Bar, London Pride ) but well kept. They've got a sign up saying "probably the best pub in Northampton". Probably not. nmckenn - 25 Jul 2014 23:53 |
