I look after a disabled person in a community setting. We have visited numerous leisure establishments, and as you can imagine, some of the establishments are extremely disability aware and others are not; in the same way that some customer services are extremely good and others are bad. My experiences were negative due to the following reasons: The staff, in my opinion, are not trained in disability awareness. For example, they do not offer assistance and if you request assistance then they look really unhappy about that. They did not provide assistance when my service user needed to use a disabled toilet, the manager was the only person who was able to present me with an alternative option when it came to looking after the needs of my service user and respecting her dignity. After paying for two cups of tea, my service user spilt a cup of tea. I asked the bar maid to replace the tea, but it took her ages to do this because she continued to serve at the bar. She said that the drink was spilt so i will have to wait till she has served other customers; yet i had already paid for the drinks and my service user and myself were waiting a long time. I told the bar maid that my service user does not understand about the wait due to disability. The bar maid was very rude; she said that i was using disability as an excuse and i must wait. Very poor attitude and customer service. I told her that she should not work with customers if she does not want to be helpful and disability aware. I told her that i wanted to see the manager. I saw her speaking to the manager prior to the manager seeing me. The manager said some irrelevant things such as "We do not discriminate about anyones colour" and "my staff are not employed to look after your disabled clients." she interruped me when i was trying to explain about poor customer services and lack of disability awareness, and said that many disabled people use the pub. My service user and i are non white, im not sure if that is why race discrimination was mentioned, but in my opinion it was not relevant to mention that. Seems that feeback is not appreciated, it is all about the staff and management, not the customers. If they remain untrained in regards to disability issues and customers service then they will not have any custom left! bunny200 - 14 Jan 2012 23:07 |
