The other pub near the station. Tends to attract large groups for some reason. When I arrived a group of 8 was just leaving (making the place virtually empty), and a bit later a group of 13 arrived. The main room at the front is light and airy decorated in what can only be described as a “funky” style, with much use of yellows and browns. There is a “games room” at the back, but this is much smaller and seems to consist mainly of a pool table occupying over half the space ! There were three “national” beers available, Theakstons, Spitfire and Deuchars – of which I had the Theakstons. There was a menu listing typical pub food, but I didn’t eat here. I was going to complain about the horrendous loud music, but after a few minutes realised it was 60/70s Motown classics – but with dreadful sound quality ! Martinsh - 18 Mar 2015 23:03 |
As the Old Vic was not yet open we had a quick beer in here before getting our train home - very handy for the station. My Theakstons bitter was thin and tasteless but I expect that's the brewery's fault not the pubs. Modern decor inside with a sports bar at the back and they do B&B and food. mcroyal - 27 Aug 2013 12:57 |
Fine while waiting for a train- decent beer at a decent price. If you have a long wait. come here rather than go to the bar on the station where there's No Real Ale and expensive alternatives. Also good if you've had a particularly/typically frustrating journey courtesy of British Railways and could murder a pint. scoobybooze - 3 Feb 2012 19:46 |
Handy pub for the station. Cask ales at reasonable prices. alexw - 17 Dec 2011 22:59 |
Now Called "Station Hotel". Deuchars IPA,S N Spitfire and Theakston Best were the cask ales on offer.I opted for the Deuchars that was very nice. It's a nice pub however there are better not too far away. 6/10 fat_beer_badger - 16 May 2011 23:29 |
