Proper old fashioned bloke's pub. No women or children or young men. Bit dark and gloomy inside, and looks like the place might close at any time. Central bar, with a small raised seating area at the front. This is a corner location pub that is completely surrounded by the next door Wetherspoon. No food offered. No cask ales available. Loud music playing. In its own way I found the place likeable and with some character. There is such an old fashioned feel about the place. You can image sailors have been coming here for years. The contrast with the modern Wetherspoons that envelopes it is interesting. There is something somehow symbolic about the relationship. SilkTork - 24 Jan 2016 12:57 |
This is s typical sailors haunt. Can be quite entertaining on occasions. The beer (ale) is pretty average so I tend to stick to lager. Small pub situated on a corner. Ruby's next door (the Royal Standard) is better. wolvesfan - 1 Nov 2010 18:02 |
Used it when I was in the mob and wouldnt really be tempted back other than for nostalgia, beer isnt great and it was pretty shabby the last time I went in, with the closure of the Shipwrights into another Turk fast food outlet (like thats needed) most drinkers seem to use Yates for the value drinks/food. odbod - 25 Aug 2010 15:12 |
