user reviews of Old Bridge Inn, Ripponden

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The real McCoy claims to be oldest hostelry in the country, 700yrs. Stone walls, cruck frame, idiosyncratic nooks, doors, stonework etc, real fires. Spoiled a little bit by the 70s-ish area by the toilets, which was presumably the mistal. Situated in a delightful quaint spot by the river. Bet its lovely in the summer.
Six beers three regular Taylors and three guests. We only tried two of the guests (Phoenix Pale Moonlight and one I wasnt keen on), both were in very good condition.
The Pork Pie Appreciation Society was founded here I guess they dont pay 4.95 ( :-O ) for pie and peas but theyll have to pay 3.20 for Landlord. Presumably thats why the pubs full of frightfully well-spoken people meeting place for Ryburns well-to-do southern incomers? The Phoenix was 3/pint does Taylors insist that their beers always have to be the dearest in any pub theyre served in? Rest of food fairly dear, we didnt try it so cant comment. The staff were very friendly.
Beware, theres no pub sign that we could see, almost impossible to find from the main road so turn down towards Barkisland, left towards the church and its the white building over the footbridge to the left.

A lovely pub with well kept cask ales and outdoor seating overlooking the river. Recommended!
