I would just like to say that i am very sorry for your experience that you had, i am the new licensee as of the 4th October 2011, so i can only guess that the out going landlord was a bit stressed with the imminent move.If you are ever in the area please do give us a try i can assure you that we would never turn away guests, once again i am sorry for your bad experience, as you say the george is a lovely old pub and i can guarantee that if you do return you will receive a warm welcome. hugo123 - 15 Dec 2011 13:30 |
I used to frequent this pub in my younger days, and absolutely loved it, and I have many fond memories of my evenings spent there. Over the past 3 years, I've taken my parents/family there for lunch on numerous occasions, and have spent alot of money - the food is always good and I have always raved on to my partner what a nice place it is and how I couldn't wait to take him there. So, my partner and I were staying in the area on Saturday 1st October and I decided it was time I took him there, for a bite to eat, accompanied by my brother and his 2 children. I can honestly say that I have never, ever received such a rude and sour welcome as we did that evening. Five of us wandered into an almost empty, and completely silent pub at 1930 in the evening and noticed that some of the larger tables were reserved, but there were a few small tables which were pushed together, which were not reserved. I asked one of the staff, whom I presumed was the manager? if we could sit somewhere for a bite to eat, to which he said (actually it was more of a snapped reply ...) "NO" and then pushed past us and carried on into the kitchen .......... Then I asked the barmaid if we could sit at the small tables near the door, which were't reserved, and she said "yes, but you can't order any food as we're only serving the tables which have been reserved ....." and then she walked off. So we walked out. Sooooo ....... The George, St Briavels - 0 out of 10 for making my family and I feel so welcome and you won't be pocketing any more of our hard earned money. You are most definately off my list of good pubs at which to eat and drink!! My partner was completely shocked as this experience was VERY different to the great place I'd described to him! And I was left feeling completely deflated to be honest. Needless to say, we found another lovely pub, which made us feel more than welcome, served us fab food and drinks all evening, and we spent over 100 with them. I guess The George can afford to turn away good trade as they are just doing so well ...... ddpq - 3 Oct 2011 12:25 |
