please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Remarkably has just reopened as the New Union, in the hands of a couple who previously ran the Jolly Anglers at Burneside. Ales on the bar are Loweswater Gold and several from Bowness Bay. I wish them every success for the future and look forward to visiting soon. Stamfordian - 6 Mar 2016 01:08 |
Up for auction and apparently has planning permission for conversion to social housing i.e. flats for the disabled. Stamfordian - 8 Jul 2013 00:02 |
(ADDENDUM)....we have just passed this pub on our way to stay at the Jolly Angler in Burnside...and this pub is now SHUT DOWN...not a surprise there then...(July 2012) This pub was a quiet little pub just outside of the local town area, but one which did "steady" trade...poor choice of live music at week-ends though, made going further into town centre an easy choice.... We stayed here a couple of times and each time we did, we complained about the bedroom area or the bathrooms...Although the owner DID on 1 occasion show us to her only spare bedroom that night...that was in EVEN WORSE condition than the one we left behind...so we ellected to stay where we were.. ALL the bedrooms are tired and needed money spending on them...redecorating them all is a MUST...at least..!! Our bedding was threadbare in places and had patches of pattern missing, through (i hope) frequent washing....carpets needed replacing, and the TV was a nightmare to actually get working, something which we heard others complaining about as we left on our last trip...as well as sticky carpet in their bedroom...UGH..!! The BEST part of our stays here...was the breakfast...and that was BRILL..can not complain about that... Whoever takes this pub on (if it actually DOES re-open)...will need to spend LOADS of money on getting the rooms sorted out BEFORE they even tackle the interior of the bar area....redecorate, new beds & bedding...new carpeting and possible even new shower areas would benefit their sales value.... I HOPE THE BREWERY GIVE THE NEW LANDLORDS LOTS OF ASSISTANCE WITH THIS PUB...THEY WILL NEED IT...!!!! It is such a shame, as this pub was once one of the best ones in the town...but that, was MANY years ago now....... unjani0 - 19 Jul 2012 13:20 |
