| Sounds like another victim of the wealth of London and the South East, the desire of the rich to acquire "property" and the inevitable outcome, i.e. the gradual collapse of the local community. I remember the place from several decades past, when as a visitor I was made welcome and the pub served "outsiders" and the locals equally well. The Ruperts and Henriettas will no doubt be disappointed, but they are unlikely to appreciate their role in its instability. Perhaps they could pool their pocket money and save it? Closed and up for sale. Clearly there are a lot of wealthy individuals in this part of the world, or at least visit this part of the world. However even this is not a guarantee that a business will survive. Manaccan is pretty remote and I guess that there simply aren't enough punters to make a go of it, particularly through the long winter months. | Called in on a saturday lunchtime whilst out walking. The place was full of Ruperts and Henriettas no doubt taking advantage of their second homes. Not a Cornish person in sight ! The place was very cramped and drinks were very expensive. The Tribute was well kept - in truth thats the only positive thing I can say about the place. | From the outside it looks like the perfect pub with old world charm and thatched roof and likely to attract the well heeled in this rather expensive part of Cornwall. Inside however its a pretty standard village pub in need of a bit of a spruce up and oddly enough, (at the time of my visit), no beer on draught, presumably having run out and/or forgot to order some more, (2 beer pumps in evidence on the bar). The gents is a gem though, as its seems unreconstructed from the past, being a lean too at the side of the premises with a simple black painted wall and gutter affair....very, very rare these days! ridleyman - 23 Jul 2012 12:35 |
