A large and cosy pub which appears a really popular place for food. The pub is set in a beautiful village with a couple of duck ponds. Inside, there are a couple of rooms at the front. One acts as a bar area where locals had gathered with their dogs, whilst the other appears more suited to diners. Beyond that is a much larger and more formal dining area dominated by a stuffed boar's head. Even further beyond is an outdoor patio where pizzas are cooked, along with speciality barbecue food. There is also a garden area with a kids' play area and accommodation at the rear. Staff were all friendly and help us find some seats to go with the only spare unmade table. Ales were Adnams Ghost Ship, Grain Redwood & Oak & Woodfordes Wherry. Decent pub. Although it didn't feel like a traditional one. blue_scrumpy - 23 Jul 2017 11:36 |
The pub is warm and cosy, popular for its inventive food and good beer - rightly so in our experience. We decided to stay overnight and the rooms were very pleasant indeed. What really struck me was the young and hard-working staff, who were friendly and helpful, despite being busy. nroskilly - 6 Jan 2015 16:42 |
HEAVENLY. Our lunchtime visit was bliss. Lovely building, interiors, ambience, public bar. Innovative menu (eggs and soldiers! Beetroot and salad cream sarnie, fish dog sarnie which wasn't "fish, dog" but a homemade fishfinger in a hot dog roll). Lovely staff who, like the pub, were distractingly charming. Don't hesitate. chrisb99 - 15 Apr 2014 14:29 |
A very good pub / restaurant, local ales in a friendly but small bar (3 ales on) good interesting menu in the restaurant, better than many other pubs locally. Randyray - 17 Sep 2013 18:38 |
Pretty good. Not really a drinkers' pub, unless there's a bar that escaped my notice. Lots of tables set out for dining, which is why we were there. Food was good, reasonably priced, and there was a good range of real ales. I noticed that dogs are allowed in, as in all proper pubs. Incidentally Gt Massingham is a fabulous village (it even retains its shop). If you have a light aircraft you can land at the farmstrip and it's five minutes walk to the pub. If I have any complaint it is that the cheese board was a little unimaginative and perhaps a little ungenerous in quantity. Some grapes and a slice or two of apple wouldn't have come amiss, as well. No canned music, no TV. Full marks for that! This pub was closed for six years while the locals tried to save it from being turned into housing. It's a miracle that it has survived. I thoroughly recommend it. Go there at once. twm_sion_cati - 22 Jun 2010 09:55 |
