Very busy on our weekday afternoon visit, so busy we got the last table in the pub. The ale was good and the service reasonable. 8/10 fat_beer_badger - 23 Feb 2012 16:09 |
I would agree with rpadam that it is a bit more plusher than the Moon and Stars two doors down, and tends not to attract the 'care in the community' crowd you get in 'the Moon'. Food is ridiculously cheap: friends and I had a reasonable steak and kidney pudding, chips and peas for 2.99. There is a larger, better kept selection of ales. Strongly recommended. This place has obviously had a chequered history in its previous guises as the Hogshead, The Place and Bar:me, but as a Lloyds No. 1 I would put it down as one of the better examples of this JDW chain. Surprisingly, not only is it just two doors down the road from the local Wetherspoons (the Moon and Stars) but it also has a better selection of real ales including a good pint of Summer Daze from Arundel Brewery (or at least that it what I was told it was as somebody had pinched the pump clip...). rpadam - 14 Mar 2010 11:32 |
