user reviews of the Washington, Sheffield
please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
As in the last review, the unremarkable rooms remain, and it resembles some of the pubs you will find on estates all over the country, however, it is close to the city centre and makes a change from the normally frenetic, anonymous atmospheres these can create. Has a strong music background, but no band was playing on my visit. SouthYorkshireman - 18 Dec 2011 17:07 |
Basic music-oriented pub on the edge of the city centre, not far from West Street but far enough away to keep out the hordes. From the outside it looks like a slightly forbidding, unrefined old local, with Tetley signage and glazed windows meaning you can't see in. Once inside it's bouncing with a mixed crowd-students and musicians come for the varied jukebox, but there's also an element of local clientele. It's basic, with a central bar serving two unremarkable rooms with traditional furnishings and a wooden floor. Promotional posters and leaflets are around the walls. The real ale selection is limited to Tetley's and Abbeydale Moonshine, so it doesn't stand out in Sheffield- although the Moonshine went down well. It's not strictly traditional but it's not bad at what it does, and I wouldn't be averse to returning. Carlurmston - 20 Apr 2010 17:16 |
