| Large, rambling village pub with a split emphasis on eating and drinking. It's opened out and is roughly a horseshoe shape around a bar, but with different levels giving a feeling of separation. The southern end of the pub is more foody, although it's not been 'gentrified'- a pub atmosphere prevails. The northern side was more spartan and was reasonably busy with drinkers. The furnishings and decor are typical and pretty unremarkable- it's not soulless but just 'ordinary'. The home-cooked food was excellent and came in good portions. Beer-wise, it's pretty good, with Black Sheep, London Pride and 2 local beers- Prospect Nutty Slack and Thwaites available on my visit. . Pride was in good form, service friendly. | Good choice of ales had the Jennings which was a good pint and decided to stay for some food. 2 menus to choose from plus a specials on the board next to the bar which was the best option as it was cheaper than the prices on the menus. I found the food to be good and would gladly visit again. Pub inside does look dated and could do with a fresh lick of paint. blureg - 15 Nov 2009 20:51 |
| Good choice of ales, usually 5 on, mainly from small Northern Brewers. The pub has Regular offers on; Its 2quid for all cask ale the moment throughout july! Quality food served in both bar & restaurant, although some meals are on the pricey side. There seems to be a problem with flies in the bar area??
