We've been in several times over the past few years, and it's always seemed nice and friendly place for a quiet drink. We went in on a Saturday night recently, though, and it was dead. Five other people (if you count a vast dog), three of whom appeared to be the owners and their daughter, doing homework. They had to turn the lights on in a room for us, and it seemed like having us in there was an inconvenience. Disconcertingly soft floor. Soon joined by four regulars, all over 70. rocker1982 - 29 Nov 2016 10:34 |
I've been meaning to visit this wonderfully preserved old style English boozer for some time and I found it to be the quietest, most tranquil pub I’ve ever been in even though there were others drinking. No muzak, pool or fruit machines - nice! I’ve been in pubs where I was the only customer which were much livelier but what’s not to like about that? - long may it remain so. The pub only has two rooms which is a very pleasant change from the open plan style of so many pubs these days. Friendly, knowledgeable landlord and staff make this a calm retreat for anyone just wishing to while way an hour or two. Definitely a place to return to. vladtheimbiber - 15 Jun 2014 19:21 |
You can have a bit of a mini pub crawl around this area now with this one the sportsman, the prince of wales then down to the cross sythes which isn't listed on here. This may be a locals pub but i found the staff and customers friendly and knowledgeable about the ales on offer. Not far from Graves park which holds concerts now and again. A really pleasant little boozer. Ale choice is limited by comparison with the Sheffield heavyweights, but this a real community pub with at least 4 pumps on at all times. Last time we went in, there was a meeting of the local angling club who were a smashing group of lads and typify the warm welcome we have always experienced when we go there. Norton Lees is a bit of a beer desert and this place brightens up Derbyshire Lane no end. Camraboy - 9 Feb 2012 21:02 |
