| Prior to my posting, the score was 2.8 / 10, hmmm! On Thursday evening I made only second visit to this establishment in many years of it being open. It is a bar, not a pub, but fair play, that's how it markets itself, but £4.20 for a bottle of Newcastle Brown, get a grip, it's hardly the latest alcopop joint on the Haywards Heath strip. | I'm not sure this establishment should be rated on this site, since it is not a pub at all. They don't sell any decent ale so you have to be happy with the usual bottled lager or the other draught fizzy liquid that I presume is fed directly from the gents, following some light carbonisation. The food is pretty nice, and the decor is pleasant, in an unambitious way. Best avoided on weekend evenings when the no-trainers brigade are out in force. chimpboy - 30 Aug 2012 13:26 |
| I have been a fairly frequent visitor to this establishment over the past couple of years and would not like to think how much money I have spent in the place. Last Friday I visited the bar with my partner, who has been a regular for many years and our custom and loyalty was rewarded by my being refused entry to the bar. My crime? I was was wearing some very expensive casual shoes. On approach to the entrance my way was barred by two doormen, the older of which informed me it is 'shoes only' on Friday and Saturday nights. I was naturally surpised at this as I have been in before in the same shoes on Fri/Sat nights without a problem. My reaction was 'you're having a laugh', which produced an aggressive tirade from the older doorman about how 'trainers have never been allowed on Fri/Sat (yeas they have, and there is no signage to this effect) and how he didn't make the rules etc, etc..'. My advice to anyone thinking of frequenting this place is DON'T BOTHER - as in return, once they have milked you of your money, you will evenually have your night ruined by one of these brain dead morons on the door. | Well technically this is more of a bar than a pub....but as far as Haywards Heath is concerned its pretty much the only game in town, unless you want a fight (with or without dogs) , want to be gratuitously insulted or completely ignored. Which is what I've had in every single other pub in this town..I'm a newcomer, you see.."Not from round here..." The decor is starting to look a bit tired, too many TV screens, food is good- always go for the specials- the beer is well kept, as it ought to be at these prices. The staff are smartly turned-out, pleasant and polite. THe clientele are kind of the oldest swingers in town with more emphasis on the age than the swinging......
