Tried The Bell for the first time over the Christmas period and really enjoyed the lunchime visit. The cask Banks's mild and bitter were both superb. We only used the bar (I assume that's the bar, on the right as you go in, though it does seem to fit what Archivist called the lounge). A low-key radio station was playing when we went it which later turned to the TV being on with some war film playing, but all very quiet and unobtrusive. Great, old-fashioned room with high ceilings and big, half-frosted windows. Friendly service, jovial locals playing dominoes. Well worth a visit and I'll certainly be going back. Perhaps the largest gent's toilet in Bloxwich, with room for probably fifty people to stand waiting for a place at the trough. Quite bizarre. Mick_P - 2 Jan 2010 09:23 |
This is a lovely pub. Traditonal, with several small rooms. As Archivist says, the beer garden is nice, and in some ways the pub is a step back in time. Beer choice seemed a bit limited unless I missed some, but the Banks's bitter was a nice pint. My favourite pub in Bloxwich. stymaster - 26 Jul 2009 09:50 |
The current pub was built around 1900 to replace an older pub on the same spot. Outside is tidy enough, with nice walled beer garden. Inside has a nesting of rooms; the bar is functional and there is a lounge, thats seen a better days, with dart board and TV for racing. A lot of the more mature section of the Blocko community meet in this room, as, tv apart, it looks straight from the 1940s - i love it! Staff are always friendly, as well as the budgies in the cage in the corridor. They do a fantastic Banks's MILD cask, as well as usual stuff. No other handpumps were operating when i last visited. The pub can go from quiet to very lively, but its rare i do not pop in when researching the local history of the area. Archivist - 11 Jun 2009 09:53 |
