Stopped here for lunch.I wouldn't recommend it.I had a pint of Butcombe Bitter which was very ordinary and a bit like Ringwood Bitter, but a lot more expensive. The food was average at best and poor at worst and very, very overpriced for what it is.Lovely setting and the pub's done up nicely inside, although lacking in country pub charm. The sort of pub that appeals to Londoners who don't find the prices off putting. jdb1 - 13 May 2014 10:18 |
went there last sunday for lunch. beautiful pub well decorated and furnished.Thats where the compliments stop. No childrens menus available and when we arrived at 1.30 was advised the roasts had run out. No-one came to our table,so every time we wanted anything, had to go to the bar. Had sauasage and mash expecting something special for 16. What arrived was awful- 2 very fatty sausages on some mash with about a teaspoon of gravy with a few peas. What a total rip-off!!! Why they were busy I'm not really sure. The whole experience from start to finish was unacceptable and shall not be returning as many better pubs nearby. (bill for 4 sausage and mash and 3 kids sausage and mash 111.) socket - 26 Sep 2011 18:46 |
Both my wife and myself have been calling in at this pub since the amazing refurbishment just over a year ago. we have just had one of the best lunches I have had outside of London and I understand they have a new chef. The menu changes every day both for lunch and dinner. The only down side was it was very busy when we have been so I would book a table if you are going to eat. oscar10 - 16 Jul 2010 07:00 |
I have been going to this pub for over 10years and while the big refurbishment that took place at the end of 2008 by the current owners looks lovely, the pub has lost its atmosphere and can feel a bit soulless. Also the food is very pricey and can be a bit hit and miss at times. However the service is excellent and they are dog friendly! AlwaysHappy - 9 Apr 2010 16:42 |
Stopped by here during a walk on the Wessex Ridgeway. This had been closed for some time for a re-furb (rumour had said it was going to be changed into housing). It now has a new landlord, who have taken it VERY far up-market (with prices to match). Apparently former landlord of the Museum Inn at Farnham now runs it. A far cry, now, from Madonna & Guy Ritchie's country local (Madge was occasionally in the pub quiz). Very expensive, but the beer seemed to be well-kept. Some exotic brews too. Can't speak about the food. HenPen - 4 Jul 2009 15:27 |
