user reviews of Clovelly Bay Inn, Plymouth

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Very interesting place both inside and of course outside.

Bigger than you think once inside with a good selection of ales on too.

Didn't eat in here but the food looked fantastic with very good sized portions.

We were just getting into our stride starting our afternoon session when all of a sudden 3 o'clock came and everyone was kicked out including a group of four who had only just come in asking about food.

I know that some pubs like to keep with tradition but surely all day opening is a must at the weekends these days?

7/10 Would have given higher if allowed to stay.

Parking can be hard to find I would recommend parking at the top of the hill only short 2 minute walk down to pub were you cannot miss the bright yellow paint work outside the pub on first corner at the bottom of the hill.
On entering you find a warm welcome and four real ale hand pumps also Skinners larger, becks etc.Beer quality was excellent and easy to see why its local CAMRA pub of the year which it took from THE BORINGDON ARMS only 100 yards away.
Local reared and grown food was excellent and I would recommend booking for weekends we tried Sunday night with no tables free we went back on bank holiday Monday, the sirloin steak was one best I have had for along time and worth 16 the only criticism was at 5.95 desert was little over priced and small portion.
Over all I we were happy and will be going back to both pubs.

Light, airy and clean pub. Very friendly welcome from the girl behind the bar. Good selection of cask ales on rotation, and well looked after. Food was good but a little dear for a pub lunch. Having said that, the prawn sandwich was special. Not sure if it was just a seasonal thing but the pub was operating on old style opening times and stopped serving food at 2pm. All in all, well worth a visit and a good competitor for drop in customer, considering the hallowed Borringdon Arms is just up the road.
