I visited this place a couple of weeks ago while on holiday and have to say that this place really has fallen through the floor since the most recent reviews. When I arrived, I walked into one of the bars, only to be rudley told by the Landlord that this bar was closed (no notice on the door, only a table which had been placed haphazardly to block the entrance from the other side). I then went into the bar that was open. There were only 2 other patrons there. I went up to the bar but the landlord had disappeared so I waited a few minutes. I then set up my laptop to surf the internet and the Landlord reappeared with the question "do you want a drink?" asked in a similar rude fashion. I ordered a drink, drank it, surfed the internet and then went back to the boat, deciding that I would not be eating there. I did find out subsequently that the landlord is new but was previously said to have come from a pub in the red light district of Bradford (although I do not know if that is true or not). Either way he has a lot to learn about simply being a landlord. He did not make me feel welcome in any way, the atmosphere is miserable and the plant pots on the outside of his pub had flowers in them that were long dead and dried up. There was also a banner advertising Christmas booking for 2014 (which just about says it all really). As you may have guessed, this pub is a dump and should be avoided. I don't know what the other pubs in Gnosall are like but I am sure they are a darn sight better than this one. David_Smith - 30 Mar 2015 18:12 |
Two bar pub with dining room overlooking the busy canal. Small beer garden next to pub and larger section with smoking gazebo on the other side of a decent sized car park. Front bar with darts and pool table. No televised sport. I visited for a late-ish Sunday lunch - good menu with roasts (beef or ham today), steaks and fish to the fore. Roasts helpfully came in small, medium and large. Very good service. Three well kept real ales on draught - Banks's Mild, Banks's Best and Reverend James. Dining room was busy but with available tables but front bar was empty, probably due to a televised football match being shown elsewhere. SimonM - 3 Oct 2010 20:44 |
Advertsies itself as a pub for eating in and obviously caters for the passing boaters' trade in this respect. However it also has a traditional public bar and well-kept traditional beers. JimmyRibble - 9 Feb 2010 13:55 |
The Navigation Inn is a friendly and unpretentious canal-side pub in a great location just beside the road bridge over the Shropshire Union Canal. Customers can watch the canal boats from the pub garden or conservatory Restaurant. This pub is just as good in summer or winter. They sell well kept Banks Real Ales and serve a Traditional Pub Menu plus a Specials board. Whilst there is always plenty of choice, they are sensible enough not to try too much and pretend to be an upmarket Restaurant. They keep the food fairly simple and are very good at what they do. The pub has a very relaxed atmosphere. We had very good waitress service on the Monday night we recently visited. Monday is traditionally a quiet night, but the Restaurant soon filled up. As is often the case the landlord looks after the bar & his wife rules in the kitchen. hunter - 4 Jun 2009 10:39 |
