PS. Forgot to say that the grounds and public areas were neat and tidy, and we enjoyed the surroundings. anonymous - 30 Jun 2011 01:17 |
On holiday just down the road from this pub. The Toll House is on the main road with very easy parking by side of road, but off road, (see picture). From outside, pub looks quite striking, Clean and cream, with flowery baskets punctuating the white picket fencing along the pavement frontage. There is an outside area with slab-stone paving and the usual wooden tables/benches/parasols, and smoking allowed. The fencing encloses the pub grounds, so is ok for children, though parents should always watch their kids as there is a small gate from the picket fence to the pavement. This is not a problem unless you are a negligent parent. In this paved area there is a small wooden, open shelter (like a summer house) with seating and table, perhaps for dodging the rain ? There is also a shady grass area to the rear of the little building that was the original Toll House. This is also equipped with benches, and if all is quiet, you may have some wild rabbits on the garden banking, at the rear, munching the grass! Inside the pub, the first impression was of a clean and tidy place to eat and drink. A comfy dining room and a similar bar area. I dont drink Lagers, so cant comment on them, but there was a good selection of them. The BEER was limited. If memory serves, there was only 2 RINGWOOD ales, and by pure luck, one of my wifes and I favourite tipples.St. AUSTELLS TRIBUTE!!! My only complaint about the beer is that it was served up a tad too cool for a bitter, but it was fresh and clean tasting (luverly) but while sitting in the sun and chatting to the missus, the ale warmed up nicely! The pub was quiet that evening, so I took it on myself to chat with the owners, who were very, very friendly, and were a credit to their trade. Although, Live music is advertised, it is on hold at the moment, due to a complaint from a new housing development over the road somewhere. Previous comments seem to indicate that the bands were good. We eat in the dining room, which had the Beatles White album and Magical Mystery tour, playing very quietly in the back-ground. Quite liked that. I had the Steak/ale /mushroom pie, and the Wife had the mixed fish pie. Both home cooked and were really delicious. As pensioners, we found the cost of around 36 including beer and 2 glasses of wine, reasonable. I hope we holiday in the area again, as I would look forward to re-visiting the Toll house, and hope that it maintains the current standard that we experienced. anonymous - 30 Jun 2011 00:56 |
Another kickin' jazz night at the Tollhouse - this time courtesy of Jazz In Mind. Great music, great food and good well-kept booze. This pub must be Lymington's best-kept secret - check it out before the rest of the world discovers the Tolly. Tiles - 12 May 2011 23:30 |
Good food, a good range of well-kept beers, friendly landlord and landlady obviously caring about keeping a warm and welcoming inn. All this and regular blues and jazz evenings. This pub is a gem! Tiles - 24 Apr 2011 15:36 |
Excellent Ringwood beers served here, catering for all age groups. Keep up the good work. in_the_shed - 19 Feb 2011 11:06 |
