Does Dennis Skinner ever look in here? Now there's someone, whom I'd like to buy a pint. eddybeer - 20 Sep 2013 17:26 |
This pub was at its best in the 1970s, when the miners were chipper and it just served Mansfield ales (showing my age and politics). A big bloke used to work on cars round the back. He didn't bother with jacks, just used to lift them onto blocks. It had live music, and there used to be a stupendous hard blues/rock outfit from Nottingham called "Staple Diet" on Tuesdays...happy days indeed. eddybeer - 5 Feb 2013 18:35 |
About ready for a refurb but clean and welcoming with great staff. Five beers on from Marston & Wytchwood which arent to my taste but the one we had was in good enough condition so its down to what you like. They did us a good-priced dinner for a coach trip, which every one enjoyed, the minced beef slice was fantastic. Richardhuddleston - 25 Sep 2011 21:50 |
Friendly two-roomed pub not far from the church. Quiet on a weekday lunchtime, but there were three real ales on, and the one I had was in very good condition. I was served a portion of home-made chicken and gammon pie so large I almost couldn't quite finish it. It was delicious. Certainly this offers better value for lunch than the tea-room at Bolsover Castle. I've been to Bolsover a few times but only came in here by chance, as the High Street is in the quieter part of town and is not the main shopping area. The bus from Mansfield or Sheffield stops about two minutes' walk away. apchilcott - 10 Jun 2011 16:45 |
Good selection of real ales. The board outside advertises their beer garden as having spectacular views and it's no exaggeration! Just popped in for one yesterday (Monday lunchtime) to check out the place, but will certainly go back when it's a little busier! Poke - 22 Mar 2011 09:39 |
