Think the previous reviewer hit this one on the head. The beer is warm although not undrinkable. The whole place though is very uninviting and dirty. Anyone walking in here is going to get a very bad impression of the pubs in Ripon. Do not lose faith there are a few good ones! Alepale - 2 May 2012 11:54 |
Well if it looks like a dump, smells like a dump, sounds like a dump, it's probably a dump. But I entered with an open mind and left shortly afterwards for the only place I found worse than this in Ripon. Places like this I suspect have fuelled the supermarket beer boom. robf - 30 Apr 2012 10:55 |

Dreadful would probably be the first word that springs to the mind of a discerning beer drinker BUT enter this pub with an open mind and it will charm you. At first sight there is little going for this place with its grey painted frontage - awful decor, big telly screens everywhere and a boring range of Scottish and Newcastle's beers plus Carling and Tetley's Smooth, no cask beer in sight. However linger just a little longer and what do you see? lots of young and not so young, lively customers, socialising and enjoying themselves, just what a pub is for. This is actually a rather good pub, beer notwithstanding but the resourceful drinker will always find something that will stay down. The staff are mega efficient but do insist on not providing a glass with bottled beer; now remember beer bottles are often stored outside where they are shat upon by birds and peed on by rats, rats carry Wiles disease in their urine and Wiles disease is nasty and incurable. Formerly called the Star, it was renamed after a local official who blows his horn every night at 9 o'clock, .... in public.... four times nightly, plus once more in front of the Mayor. anonymous - 6 Apr 2009 19:00 |
