I've spent an excellent 5 days in the village of Little Longstone a few weeks ago. The Packhorse is as good as ever. A tiny pub, with three small rooms, open fires in two rooms. A very warm welcome, fantastic food (it can be quite busy during weekends so booking is advised), four excellent Thornbridge beers on cask. And fantastic staff! Full marks. Superb Thornbridge beers, very friendly bar staff, friendly locals. Very nice little pub! MarkVP - 8 Sep 2011 12:53 |
We were staying nearby in Cressbrook but I made a beeline for this place after reading the reviews. Homely little place, tiny main bar full of close-knit locals plus a few tourists (like us) having a bite to eat in the back bar. Only had mains but food was fairly simple, delicious and inexpensive (compared with others in the area at least). Tried two of the four Thornbridge ales on and they were both beautiful, especially the Jaipur Strong Pale Ale. Friendly barman very happy to chat with me about the beer when he wasn't serving drinks, delivering food and clearing tables! Definitely recommend this over the bland Robinsons offerings in Great Longstone. polonius948 - 9 Jul 2011 17:56 |
Great little pub, with a good range of ales and excellent food. Only really ended up eating here because the nearby Monsal Head Hotel was heaving, but would definitely opt for this one in future. rob1981 - 6 Jan 2011 23:47 |
Tremendous pub. Arrived with my black labrador on a friday night at 8pm and could not have been made more welcome by staff and clientele. Good very local ales, and enticing but untried food. 10/10 dry_riser_inlet - 5 Aug 2010 11:41 |
