Closed when I arrived so went to the Blacks head, which I like even though the beer is not great and they play music. A few people in, nice atmosphere and friendly bar maid. Not sure why the Blacks head is not listed on BITE, but I give it 7/10. ben23699 - 27 Sep 2015 19:59 |
Very friendly local, 6 beers on, 4 from local micros. Highly recommend (note opens at 8pm) spoinge - 18 Aug 2014 11:11 |
Paid a visit today and it's still a delightful pub, a friendly local. Sampled the Timothy Tayloe's Landlord which was on form. :-) DiscerningDave - 7 Apr 2013 21:38 |
Agree with previous comments, a real gem of a pub and given the opening hours my brother and I called in yetserday (Sunday) and enjoyed a pint of Skinner's Betty Stoggs which was on very fine form, it's a beer we know well. They had a radio playing at a low volume and it was a nice place to chill out for a bit and put the world to rights. It would be good if they also opened on a Saturday afternoon. Super little backstreet local, but watch out for previously mentioned limited opening hours. Small main bar room with benches off to right, occupied by the local knitting circle on our visit on a busy Friday night. Very welcoming staff and superbly kept beers, room off to left dominated by pool table, but still a couple of small tables and benches all around the walls. Very convivial and lively atmosphere all round, a real sense of people out enjoying themselves in a traditional old setting. Gristy - 23 May 2011 11:20 |
