user reviews of the Gweek Inn, Gweek

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I've stayed in the village of Gweek and visited the pub several times in both the Black Swan and Gweek Inn incarnations, the pub has always been much better than average on any criteria, food, real ale, service etc. A warm welcome is always assured. Gweek is probably best known as the home of the National Seal Sanctuary, the pub is a short walk away, my best encounters with seals have been on a boat hire from Morston point in Norfolk but the Seal Sanctuary acts as a seal hospital and deserves any support that people can give.

Now called the 'Black Swan', which apparently was its name a long time ago. The pub has been taken over and refurbished by the couple who run the White Hart at Ludgvan, (near Penzance).

To me it seems that during the refurbishment, (more like gutting the place really), they seem to have taken away some its soul and its now more aimed at people wanting to eat rather than people who would like a drink.

Having said that the beer, (Doom), was in good condition and the food that was being presented to the few people in the pub looked good.

The meal we had here was really dissapointing. Cold pie, instant mash, frozen sausages. Maybe they just had a bad night...but I won't be eating here again.

Proper Job and Betty Stoggs on tap though - two of my cornish favouites!

Ten of us had a very good lunch. They serve proper pies, not mush covered in a piece of puff pastry. Beer was good and well presented, but I can't remember what it was, maybe Tinners. Would go there again.

The new landlord s Steve and Debs ( The former hosts of The Paris @ Coverack)have totally revamped the place!
The beer is very well kept , and the food very good and reasonably priced.
