This inn has been around under this name for a very long time. The fake half-timbered front dates from the 1920s, but the low beams and alcoves inside are much earlier.

Unfortunately that’s about the only good thing I can say about it ! Everything is just urgently screaming out for renovation / investment. From the wallpaper featuring cases of wine to a traditional large fireplace with a very small gas fire, a TV that is switched off, low level muzak, and a board proclaiming “live acts” which was otherwise totally empty. A miserable clientele taking up as much space as possible without actually being with anyone else !

There were two handpumps, serving Doom Bar and Bass. Needless to say I chose the latter, and it was reasonable.

You’d be better off in the White Horse next door !

Nice enough boozer but with unspectacular beer offerings, so opted for a JD Honey with coke.

Warm and cosy along with a very convivial barmaid.

Truly odd. Seemed friendly enough and is open late on a Friday night if you are waiting for the 00:15 Red Arrow. The real ales were not in evidence though, so had to have a cider.

Karaoke was being well used.

Handy spit and sawdust type pub. Did have a handpump on but I plumped for a Bells as I was in a rush.

Two room city centre pub with a small circular island bar area serving both sides, but each bar approached separately from entrance lobby. Small front bar with a couple of benches and tables, but enough room for a dartboard. Couple of handpumps, one with Bass on. Pleasant looking older style frontage and an easy 20 minute visit whilst waiting for a bus from the huge nes edifice across the road.
