Not a bad boozer but seemed to be less real ale when I called. Clean and reasonable. wrichard - 13 Dec 2011 20:39 |
Town centre boozer, hidden away behind the shopping centres and car parks on a truncated street, which makes locating it rather difficult. It's large and open plan, with one large, sparsely-furnished room around a horseshoe bar, the front area being by far the largest with a pool table and not much seating which creates a somewhat cavernous atmosphere. It's popular as a rockers pub and the decor reflects this, careworn and lived-in without being scruffy or tatty. The real ale choice is one of the best in the town centre, with 4 pumps usually in operation. On my visit Barngates Tag Lag, Theakston Best Bitter and Deuchars were available- not the finest selection in the land but not bad, particularly compared to its neighbours. Tag Lag was cheap and enjoyable. A quiet atmosphere prevailed on my Saturday afternoon visit, with most punters watching the TV golf. This isn't a must visit pub but it isn't half bad, and in a town which isn't particularly strong for real ale is the one to head to. Carlurmston - 27 May 2010 16:40 |
Superb town centre back street boozer. Great atmosphere & good beer. nobbygoat99 - 5 May 2009 22:01 |
An interesting little pub in the centre of the town, but hidde away in a back street. Seems to have an interesting and changing choice of guest real ales. Worth going back to. Ronsmith - 29 Mar 2009 15:35 |
