Now boarded up and looking a real eye-sore. Security in abundance to stop thieving pikeys robbing anything of value. MickJ - 6 Mar 2011 14:21 |
What how sad, what a shame. In the 70s I was the Landlady of there wasnt a jukebox or fruit machine when we first took over the pub and we were so proud. the wheels on the ceiling were original. It was the best pub in town, people came to socialise, no fruitmachine nothing just people The brewery insisted on a jukebox in about 1978, which was only heard in the bar (cant remember its name may have been wheelwrights) then they took out a wall to wall mirror and made both rooms into one, which was mistake. but there were no snotty nosed kids, children were only allowed in if dining. the youths were under control and everyone was made to feel welcome, We wouldnt allow regulars to be :clickey: making sure that newcommers were welcome. It paid off and in its day the Hayrick was the most popular pub in Nuneaton. It made me sad when i read your review. Linda cawlin - 24 Jul 2010 15:31 |
You know in those old westerns when a stranger walks into a saloon and the piano player stops playing and everyone stares at you? Well, The Hayrick 'experience' is exactly that. Probably a decent local pub for regulars, but anyone NOT from around here might want to give it a miss. Usual bar flys at the bar holding up service, snot nosed kids charging everywhere. I spoke to the landlord who is ex-military, and thought with his discipline background, he'd have sorted it out, but alas it seems not. Nice original 1970s features that should be restored to their full glory MickJ - 7 Jan 2010 21:26 |
