user reviews of the White Hart, Sherborne

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

With two pubs in Sherborne closed, it was time to call in on a couple of standby pubs! The first was the White Hart in Yetminster, which is open all day on a Saturday. I was suitably impressed by this place, especially the cider range. Ales were Wriggle Valley Golden Bear, Palmer's Dorset Gold & Fine Tuned Langport Bitter. Ciders were Harry's Flash Harry & Scrummage, Dorset Nectar Old Harry Rocks & Ham Hill Cider Bop Drop. A number of locals were crowded around the bar, leaving plenty of seating space. There is a nice outdoor area with a skittles alley also situated at the rear. Recommended.

After many visits to Yetminster I finally managed to find a time when I was thirsty and it was open - shame it's not open on a Sunday night but I guess there's no point opening just for me.

Very welcoming and friendly with well-kept Butcombe on draught when I was there. Definitely will be back for a longer session.

Aside from good beer and friendly people: on a purely aesthetic note, it's got a dark, warming and solid feel to the interior, but there's far too much of the red velour that makes it look like something from the 1970s, and the fluorescent cardboard cutout stars attached to the spirit optics.... for goodness sake...

This pub features (at least its exterior) in the film Tamara Drewe, which has just come out on DVD. I've not visited but I plan to do so if I'm in the area.

Excellent country village inn with a warm welcome, pleasant ambience and comfortable bar areas. Only one ale on, but it least it was Doom Bar - so worth the visit. My wife gave the place extra Brownie points because they have individual bottles of sparkling wine. We didn't eat, but menu looks OK if a little pedestrian and slightly overpriced.
