Visited back in August on a lovely sunny afternoon. Three cask ales available, Theakston Best Bitter, Black Sheep Best Bitter, and Timothy Taylor Landlord. One further pump was off. Not the most inspiring selection of ales, but I went for the Black Sheep (£3.80) which was pleasant and in good condition. Plus I was sat outside in the sun watching the world go by, so I was happy enough. My pint was topped up without me being asked, which was nice. Service swift and friendly. No complaints! Outdoors there are 5 picnic tables plus 5 smaller tables and a bench. A chalk board outside lists the cask ales that are on and their percentages. RealAleRobUK - 5 Oct 2016 15:23 |
We were made to feel really welcome and at home in this pub on a recent weekend spent in Hawes. Helen, who has been managing the pub since May 2011, and her partner are lovely people, genuinely warm and friendly. They know how to keep their beer and to serve a good Yorkshire pint. mikeymikey - 18 Oct 2011 10:56 |
Decent food served in vast quantity quite cheaply. I liked this pub the most of the Hawes four. The landlady is friendly and nice and adresses you as "gents". The pub is friendly - we got talking to locals and that didn't seem on offer elsewhere. Decent bottle of "Bianca Veneta" grappa too, which we polished off. Beer pretty good, not all of them always on as others remark, but mostly there, and also a bit cheaper than the Crown and Fountain. AbeC - 12 May 2010 23:20 |
The first (or last, depending which way you are walking) of 3 pubs in the Market Place next door to each other. The Board comes over as an unpretentious place with no great luxuries or thrills. There is a slight railway theme with a few train and viaduct pictures on the walls but overall the interior is quite plain and straightforward. The small fire at one end was fairly welcoming on the cold wet evening we called in and the place had quite a homely feel. 4 hand pumps - Black Sheep Best, John Smiths, Theakstons Best and Dent Aviator but only the latter 2 were available although my pint of Aviator was decent enough quality. An interesting package of entertainment according to posters ranging from guess the baby weight , games nights and more traditional darts although the board is rather awkwardly placed. There is a tiny flat screen TV which appears to be quite insufficient to be of much use. As per most Dales pubs, expect piped 80s music. Not the worst place in town but certainly not the best either although you probably wouldnt want to stay for any great legth of time. RogerB - 6 Dec 2009 14:38 |
