Pleasantly busy late on Sunday with a good pub atmosphere and some pleasant beers and very friendly staff. Coupled with the curries in the Top Lock there is a good crawl from the Premier Inn to be had. mtaylor40 - 4 Feb 2014 19:34 |
Don't know why I bother. Enjoying the first decent weather for about seven years, I decided to have a leisurely stroll along the canal to Wheelton. Having enjoyed a couple of pints at the local canal-side pub, I then walked into Wheelton village to have a pint or two in the Red Lion before catching the bus back in to Chorley. NOT A CHANCE! Pub shut with a "closed until further notice" note in the window. Did an about-turn and went back to the canal as at my age I can't get a mortgage to go into the other nearby pub. chorleydave - 5 Jul 2013 18:18 |
The Red Lion is BACK, and back with a bang. Claire, ably assisted by John and some very nice staff have brought life back to Wheelton's village pub. Quality hand pulled beers, a very warm friendly welcome, dog friendy to welcome walkers taking in the local walks and Leeds - Liverpool canal and now great food is back at weekends at onl 6.50 a time, home cooked too, Claire is a very good cook. The beers are always well kept and not over priced at 3 a pint, often from more off the beat breweries. Sometimes a hand pulled mild or stout so a really good range. Quiz night on a Wednesday is growing once again and now entertaiment on alternate Friday & Saturday nights is bringing the locals back to the Lion. Keep up the good work guys, you have the majority of the village behind you. orlando2000 - 26 Feb 2012 21:50 |
New tenant took over December 2011. Four real ales on tap - usually Bluebird, often a mild or stout. Good selection and in excellent condition. Limited but growing menu - served Friday evening and weekends only - home cooked and tasty. Live music on some weekend nights, quiz night on Wednesday. Real fire, friendly welcome - just what community pubs used to be all about. Highly recommended. arattyman - 22 Feb 2012 15:33 |
