BIG Pasties, friendly staff. Landlord likes live gigs and live beer so plenty of choice of both. First pub I ever found a pint of Sharp's. Easter weekend challenge, to taste a pint from each hand pump! Find a B&B very close to save on the taxis. I've been welcomed on foot, in a car, on a bike and on a horse and with my dear old mum ("What'll you hav' my flower?"). Good stop/start or rest if you are travelling the Great Flat Lode Trail. Summer, Sunday, with the papers, sat out front looking out over St Ives Bay in the distance, having had a walk over Carn Brea, a pint of Directors or 6X, my cup is full and too soon empty and then it is Monday. mtb - 12 Apr 2010 20:35 |
Excellent out of the way pub with good food, beer and friendly staff. The landlord was very friendly and pleasant. Each time, I drank no name which was good. Each Mon and Thurs appears to be karaoke night and all who participated could actually sing very well. Will definately visit again next year. trekman - 17 Aug 2009 18:20 |
I certainly could not fault the food at our wedding anniversary meal in July, but the ale was not on top form. Yes there are plenty of handpulls giving choice, but the quality made me think there may be too many for the number of people in to drink it to ensure a turnover of beers, and we had to leave the first beer on the bar as there was no offer to change it. The next was the Sharps No Name and that was foul. They did change that one, and the others we tried were OK. gillhalfpint - 16 Aug 2009 09:13 |
This out-of-the-way country pub lies just outside Redruth and sits quite stoic in its location, but enter within and you'll not only be charmed off you feet by the convivial bar staff (it was the only place in Cornwall that we heard "My 'ansome" and "My Lover" as part of regular conversation - well done to the barmaid) but gasp at the staggering array of Real Ales that are on offer (walk around the whole bar to spot every hand pump that's available) and even flop back into a comfy seat and enjoy the banter with the locals as you tuck into a generous serving of pub grub (shortcrust pastry pie!). Well worth seeking out, but make sure you have a designated driver! Appears to welcome walkers, cyclists and even dogs. normality2000 - 22 Oct 2008 13:16 |
