A standard, if slightly dated community pub serving real ales and junk food. Not too bad for the area. JonNgog - 8 Jul 2019 17:38 |
Beware the opening times of this pub. It shows as open at 11:30 on some websites. But it doesn't actually open until midday. So I waited in the car park for half an hour. The ale selection was better than I anticipated. But all were pale ales - Allgates Tontine Tipple, Thwaites Wainwright, Salopian Lemon Dream, Atlas Wayfarer & Bristol Beer Factory 12 Apostles. Could have done with a dark beer. Seems to have a strong focus on food. blue_scrumpy - 2 May 2017 20:43 |
We found this pub using the Good Beer Guide years ago. We were on our way to the Lake District and didn't want to stop at a boring Little Chef on the motorway. Since this pub isn't far from it we thought we'd give it a go. We were very pleased with our decision. The home cooked food is good, the real ale is very well kept and the locals are friendly. As a result we've been going to this pub every time we go up to the Lake district and we'll be aiming to be there tomorrow for lunch once again. petronille - 11 May 2013 17:20 |
Made the mistake of turning up towards the end of the quiz evening. As a result the placed was packed, which is a great sign for a true local pub. That said Mrs T & I found a seat and sat down to enjoy a couple of excellent local brews. I would recommend this pub for anyone in the local area. A proper locals boozer that welcomes visitors and serves a darned good pint twineyboy - 3 Nov 2012 19:44 |
ignore the last review - the Landlord is far too tight to turn the heating on, but this is a great pub where students and codgers drink together, which makes for a great atmosphere and the beer is always in tip-top nick. handsometw_t - 4 Apr 2011 18:52 |
