It's always sad to hear that the service is terrible in any pub - especially when it's listed and has so many surviving original features. I believe this pub, the adjoining institute and the housing were designed by Charles Voysey for the Whitwood Colliery in 1904. Lets hope the service gets better and attracts more people to a building well worth a visit. bigjim778 - 15 Mar 2010 18:59 |
Award winning pub? What a joke! I live 5 minutes walk from this pub, so it is my local. In the last year my wife and I have gone to this pub maybe a dozen or so times. The beer is standard, nothing to complain about per se. The food based service is amongst the worst I have EVER experienced. On 3 seperate occassions we have left after 1.5 hours of waiting for out food to arrive. No apologies, no explaination. On one occasion my wife called to make sure that they were serving food, it was around 6.00pm (food is served till around 10pm). We went along 10 minutes later to find that they werent actually serving food. When we complained, they just shrugged. Very poor service, average beer, poor atmosphere and low quality food. We have literally just come back from the pub again now after being assured for over an hour that the food is 2 minutes away. Absolutely terrible....avoid!!!!! wonmanbanned - 14 Mar 2010 15:39 |
