Worth a visit for the building.Friendly, but the mild is nasty keg.

One of several impressive pubs architecturally in Eccles. This one has a large central wooden bar with serves a saloon and a wide drinking corridor. Doors lead off here to a billiard room and a lounge. Manchester United pictures on the walls of the saloon indicate the pubs allegiances. Holts Bitter & Mild were available. Choice language from the locals.

A terracotta coloured corner pub built by Holts's Brewery around the same time as The Grapes. There are two entrances - one exclusively for the Vault. The bar is rich in detail - with mahogany screens, etched glass and tiled floor. In one corner the seating is slightly partitioned, one of the wooden partitions declaring in etched glass 'Outdoor Department'.
On the other side of the long bar is a large drinking lobby, served by hatches.
Off of this are three rooms with doors declaring in etched glass 'News Room' (which contains a pool table), 'Bar Parlour' a pleasant carpeted room with a fireplace, and down a tiled corridor a very large 'Billiard Room' where the pub's entertainment is held.
Holt's Bitter and Mild on the pumps.
The pub was playing music at a ridiculously loud volume - odd, considering the clientele were exclusively middle to old-aged men.
Another wonderfully unspoilt pub.

Another imposing Edwardian gem from Holts in Eccles. The Royal Oak is a corner pub situated behind the library and is completely unspoilt. All rooms lead off the beautifully tiled corridor, including a large bar room to the right (with a hatch to the corridor) a pool room and another large lounge. All in all, it's a massive, compartmentalised place and was built for an age when far more pub-goers existed- it often feels empty even when quite a few people are in the pub. As such it has an atmosphere of faded grandeur, although it's still smartly maintained. Sky Sports is shown here. As with most Holt's pubs, not a great beer range- Holt's bitter and mild, which I can take or leave, but it's worth a visit just for the building.
