| This was the first pub I passed on the way back from the DW Stadium on the way back from the town centre. Friendly staff and locals, decent pub to watch football in and couple of local ales on tap, which I wish I had sampled; I am ashamed to say I opted for San Miguel but I was in football fan mode. Meat and potato pies were value for money at £1. If you want get away from the retail park try a traditional pub then this one is worth a visit. scarr - 20 Jan 2013 19:08 |
| The Orwell has a nice location next to the canal at Wigan Pier. After yesterday's football game, it was very busy, mostly with away fans. Live football was showing on various screens. We found seating in a section at the rear which also housed a pool table. The 2 ales available were both from the Prospect Brewery - Silver Tally & Gold Rush. Most drinks were being dispensed in plastic glasses. Pies were being sold from a counter to the side of the bar at an extremely good value of �1 each. Even plates and cutlery were provided. Not a bad choice if you ever attend a rugby or football game at the nearby stadium. But otherwise, not worth heading this way out of the town centre. blue_scrumpy - 5 Feb 2012 13:40 |
