Nice bar, nothing flash but clean and warm with plenty of tables. My visit was late Dec 2014. Service was slow as the pub was busy and there was just a skeleton staff. Southwold lager was a good pint but at £4.8 it was rather expensive. Pub has both Sky and BT. 5 ales but not all available. The 'Beig Ben' Burger was ok but nothing special. Entered here last night to watch the tennis and beat/miss the train chaos. It's a lovely bar and they have a decent selection - one thing about foreign beer servers is the language barrier - whilst most will make it work for a pretty young Slovak, Carribbean lovely, Aussie flousie, French continental tottie, latino babe, Skandi dropdead, Brazilian Miss World then the short sharp retorts of an eastern block young urk take a bit off the edge of things and don't make you feel at home. He warmed up after a few rounds and sitting outside in the sun that near to Liverpool Street is an absolute pleasure. That said I wish the African Queen had of got up and replaced him behind the pumps and started serving - made the beer well tasty - I'm sure I've seen her in films? Mcloj - 28 Jun 2011 09:38 |
This is a great old-fashined, non-pretentious pub, a stone's throw from Liverpool St station. As you'd expect from a proper pub, there's a good range of beer, and the bar service is generally excellent - you'll be served quickly and in turn! Definitely a place for football watching - there are loads of big screens, and even a recent 3-D addition for when the occasion warrants. The beer garden out back is great in the summer - nice and large, with plenty of places to rest you beer. Downstairs is much quieter with a couple of pool tables, and a more relaxed lounge area. Unfortunately, so are the toilets, which are in need of a proper overhaul, and the only blot on this place. rhamilton - 21 Mar 2011 09:48 |
A very decent place to watch football, loads of screens and busy enough to get an atmosphere. despite its location, it seems to be a pub for locals instead of city types. by no means the best pub in the area, but good enough to be included in a crawl of the area. Has a great basement bar with two pool tables, tv and giant connect-4 (whe nthe bar maid will let you play it). Unfortunately they have a habit of not opening the actual bar downstairs so you need to shuttle up and down for drinks Has a back garden which is to some degree secluded and prices not too high. With all that said there is something I don't quite like about the place, with that said the bar manageress is very friendly. Can be very busy at lunch time and you will have to wait to get served; food is just so so MrSkinner - 14 Aug 2009 16:23 |
