| An absolutely great country pub/restaurant, serving some great guest beer's. The food is fresh and home cooked, and the staff very polite, hard working and nothing to much trouble. | Out of the way village pub. Seems to be aimed more at diners rather than drinkers, though the place did appear to have a small number of aged, red nosed regulars. Had a couple of decent pints of Old Peculiar. This place apparently takes pride in the reputation of the steaks it serves. | Two bar stone built pub in a tiny village nestling at the bottom of a valley between the A59 and Niddersdale proper. Largely given over to food and with seven letting rooms it still has a local following of casual drinkers. Friendly and attentive staff, of more mature years as were most customers. Black Sheep Bitter and Old Peculier plus Rooster's Special as a guest, the Roosters was decently kept but my second pint suffered from a protein haze. Kegs from Carling, Worthington, Guinness, Grolsch and Thatchers cider. Traditionally decorated with white walls, old beams, plates, brassware and some of those small wooden shields presented by various organisations to favoured customers and friends. There are several pictures of different Queen's heads, that is the women not other pubs. Unusual stone fireplaces and not very comfortable seating in each room. | Had a lovely couple of pints post New Year revelry at this wonderful pub. The Black Sheep served lovingly however the food was a disappointment (beef sandwiches were found to be both overpriced and skimpy on portions - please take note Landlord).
