A great little find in the middle of deep dark dorset! Well kept beers, doombar and ringwood, great food and fab wine on offer. bigchef - 16 Mar 2013 13:59 |
This truly is one of the best pubs I've visited in rural Dorset. A beautiful village setting, good beer, which is well-kept, and excellent food. Recently refurbihed by the co-operative owners it has a lovely bar and elegant library restaurant. Well worth a visit.... beeermandave - 10 Jun 2012 13:40 |
Originally an abattoir and a butchers with a pub in the middle. It is now a co-operative pub run by the villagers. Both the staff and the customers were friendly. I enjoyed a Trencherman's lunch served in under 15 minutes for about 8 and a pint of Sharps Doombar. Wallpaper in pub looks like a bookcase. The food hygiene rating was only 3, generally satisfactory, but the toilets were clean as were the tables. The local landowner moved the cottages there because the original ones spoiled his view. There are some parking spaces in front of the pub and the road is wide enough for two rows of parked cars. It was fairly quiet today and most people were eating and drinking in the pub garden. Came here a few years ago for a car owners meet when about 15 Mazda R/X8s invaded the village. We were made most welcome, had a lovely meal(the venison sausages) and I have nothing but praise. tommo5 - 30 Jul 2011 22:52 |
After a week of touristy things and eating out in Dorset, this is the best pub we found! Wonderful location, friendly and attentive staff, great selection of food including a popular 'specials' board (with sold out items, always a good sign, IMO). Food was excellent - absolutely delicious, piping hot, generous portions and delivered very quickly. Not pricey at all, considering the quality and attention given to the food. The traditional cottages outside on The Street are just beautiful - this pub obviously means a lot to the community, and I really hope the 'co-op' basis on which the pub now runs proves a success for all concerned.
