I am amazed this pub survives as it is in the middle of (beautiful) nowhere and the village looks tiny with just a few residents. But, thank goodness it is surviving. An incredible frozen in time establishment, completely unspoiled. A lovely bonus on my edge of Dartmoor walk from Chagford. Local ales straight from the barrel. If you love and appreciate real pubs then make sure you visit this one. I can relate to the "if only my local" type comments below. My only regret was I couldn't stay longer and sample the food (and a few more beers). tarkatherotter - 11 Oct 2016 20:43 |
Wonderful wonderful place, but why so few reviews? Totally unspoilt old fashioned pub in a wonderful part of Devon. Cosy inside and a great beer garden outside. Real ale is great here, if i lived local i would spend the rest of my life here. 10/10 montie49 - 3 Dec 2012 18:14 |
Fantastic unspoilt pub. Roaring fire, good beer straight from the barrel and friendly staff Can't comment on the locals as we had the pub to ourselves when we visited but I wish it was my local becked - 18 Mar 2011 20:48 |
This is a mighty pub: beautiful location, friendly staff and menagerie of pets - apart from the hen who pecks customers! Decent food all day and decently priced; excellently-kept ales straight from the barrel, 2.50 per pint. Nice crowd of locals when I was there who were welcoming, and a strong sense of community and anti-authoritarianism. Smoking area in disused horsebox. What more can you ask for? Only one slight gripe - gents' toilet flush consisted of bucket of water; bit hardcore even by my standards, but a great pub nonetheless. Please don't let places like this die.
