Currently, firmly closed. Hard to tell if it will reopen (as a pub anyway).

Good little Nicholsons pub with good range of beers, particularly from Timothy Taylor. Manager was kindly serving free quarter-pints of ale and food samples. Hopefully the Ram Tam will be on next time I visit.

Curious place, with a small drinking area at street level behind a conventional-looking frontage, but the bar itself is downstairs. The stairwell is rather grotty, but the main seating area is tidy enough with several quiet corners and plenty of interesting maritime memorabilia. Four handpumps, and with one being off the choice was Pride, GK IPA and TT Landlord (nice enough). Surprisingly quiet on a Friday at office closing time, so one of the few places in the City where you can sit down with a pint in some comfort at that time of day.

Why do places like this exist, particularly in this area.

Having been disappointed by The Grapes across the road, I chanced here.

This must be the most neglected Pub in the area. Drinking downstairs is allways bad, but to walk dodgy strairs to be served a pint which is nearly undrinkable is extremely annoying. However owns this place really should seel it for office space, they have no business in the Pub trade.

Small basement pub near Leadenhall Market. Looks like a right dive from the outside but downstairs lies an air-conditioned paradise. Dartboard, pork scratchings, big TV, friendly bar staff and meals for a credit-crunch busting 3. Yes, THREE POUNDS!! Perfect place to hide from the boss on a hot day.
