Pub on a side street almost opposite the prison. We arrived shortly after opening. But a few had already beaten us to it. Bradfield Farmer's Blonde was the regular beer and there were 6 guests - Salopian Shropshire Gold, The Hop Studio Pale, Dancing Duck Abduction, Oakham JHB, Welbeck Abbey Harley & Brewsmith Oatmeal Stout. There was no real cider. I opted for the only dark beer - the Oatmeal Stout, which was probably the worst beer I had all day in Stafford. It may just have been the first one out though. There is a bar at the front and a larger room at the rear. blue_scrumpy - 22 Apr 2018 17:40 |
Well, this pub is the sort of place that CAMRA beer-tickers would rave about – but I don’t ! In fact every time I go here I like it less ! There are usually 7 or 8 real ales available. Apart from Bombardier, you are unlikely to have heard of any of them, and they have names which don’t immediately tell what kind of beer they are. You needn’t worry however, they are ALL golden / pale ales ! It is also frequented by people who all know each other and have in-jokes which you are excluded from. On my latest visit, I got castigated by the landlord for looking at the pimp clips to see what was available, rather than perusing the list on the wall. 5/10 – avoid this place unless your face fits ! Stopped off in Stafford overnight this summer on our way up north. I love this pub. Had a couple of really nice session beers and watched first match of the World Cup. A proper boozer that seems to have a good cross-section of customers. A great 8/10. Old_King_Cole - 11 Nov 2014 20:17 |
A lot of beers but the range is poor, mostly strong, pale, golden or blonde beers. Often noisy in the public bar and the noise carries through into the lounge. Best smoker's area in Staffordthough arkman43 - 27 Jun 2012 20:36 |
Popped in late on a Thursday evening during an overnight in Stafford. This is a real pub - no doubt about it; the style and layout of the place and a good range of beers on. I had a couple of pints of good condition Kelham Island Easy rider. Overall 7.5/10. Old_King_Cole - 25 Jul 2011 20:35 |
