The place seems to have had a make over and now it's a rather smooth eating establishment, quite up-market and not a drinkers pub. The people were reasonably OK but it was obvious that they wanted us to order food which seemed to be quite highly priced greydog - 24 Mar 2012 15:14 |
Disappointing. In something of a rush and with time for only one pint we chose this over the New Inn simply on outside appearances. I now see that was a big mistake. Poor service, TV and music on at the same time and the beer wasn't up to much. Dan137 - 24 Mar 2009 08:18 |
Lesson on how a large pub chain can destroy a village pub by seeking to remove individualism, atmosphere and by attempting to change the decor to resemble that of a chinese takeaway (fluorescent fish tanks!) Go next door to the New Inn if you want a decent pint; last pint of lager I had at the Green Man tasted like floor cleaner. aes4liathach - 23 Oct 2008 18:22 |
Yesterday we visited The Green Man. Firstly the decor is not great and it smells. With the smoking ban in place and no cigarette smoke to hide the stale beer and dirt in the carpet, pubs need to operate some kind of cleaning policy, The Green Man doesnt seem to have one. Secondly, when ordering 2 drinks coming to approx 4 and a starter at 4.25 I dont expect someone to ask for 35! What then became a problem was when I questioned the bill and the Bar Worker told me that was correct. When I further questioned it I was told "If I wanted to be sarcastic I could leave now". Of course I siezed the wonderful opportunity being offered and shot off to another pub where staff are at least capable of some basic math, and the carpets are cleaned occasionally. Highly UN-recommended. MrWasp - 16 Sep 2008 08:59 |
Ten to fifteen years ago this was a busy pub with good food and a fine choice of ales. You would be lucky to find a seat and the barbecued spare ribs still live in the memory as the best ever. How times have changed since then. It was very quiet when we visited even though it was a Bank Holiday weekend. Two ales are now available, Bombardier (tasted okay) and Adnams Bitter. The menu is standard fare with a good choice of meals falling into the 2 for 8 category. The food is decent enough if unremarkable and at that price its hard to quibble. Definitely a fading star.
